'Expendables' Prove Dependable At Weekend Box Office

#1 "The Expendables" ($35 million)
#2 "Eat Pray Love" ($23.7 million)
#3 "The Other Guys" ($18 million)
#4 "Inception" ($11.4 million)
#5 "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" ($10.5 million)
Sylvester Stallone has still got it. The aging actor and filmmaker, most popular for his starring roles in the "Rocky" and "Rambo" franchises, brought the pedal-to-the-metal, blood-pumping (and spewing) antics of 1980s action cinema back to theaters this past weekend with "The Expendables," taking home first place during a very crowded box-office session.
A star-studded affair featuring various macho men from Jason Statham to Dolph Lundgren, "The Expendables" won over audiences nationwide for a grand total of $35 million in its opening weekend. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Stallone described the success of "The Expendables" as the "proudest moment" of his career, second only to "Rocky Balboa" in 2006 — and with box-office success currently in the palm of his hand, Stallone is using that energy to dream up an "Expendables" sequel.
"It's plotted out in my mind's eye," the "Expendables" actor/director/writer told THR. "I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can't become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges."
Landing in second place was "Eat Pray Love," the Julia Roberts-starring flick with a target audience considerably less bloodthirsty than those who saw "The Expendables." Directed by "Glee" creator Ryan Murphy and with an all-star cast that includes James Franco and Javier Bardem, Roberts' latest earned $23.7 million over the weekend, a modest success given the film's tough competition and relatively lackluster reviews.
Indeed, reviews weren't too important for this most recent box-office frame as the critically acclaimed "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World" premiered in fifth place with only $10.5 million to its name. Based on the widely adored comic book series created by Bryan Lee O'Malley, "Scott Pilgrim" draws inspiration from various areas of popular culture — video games especially — to create a hilarious and action-packed tale of a young misguided soul's quest to win his dream girl's heart. Some fans have argued that numerous free screeners prior to the film's release assisted in "Scott Pilgrim" 's box-office demise, though it's very likely that the comic book adaptation will have a long life on DVD, Blu-ray and other formats, thanks to its cultish fanbase.
Upcoming Releases:
Another crowded weekend looms with the Ice Cube-starring "Lottery Ticket" and blood-soaked "Piranha 3D" leading the pack. Jason Bateman and Jennifer Aniston try their luck at love in "The Switch," while Emma Thompson returns as "Nanny McPhee." On Wednesday, the "Twilight" franchise gets a stake in the heart from parody flick "Vampires Suck."
Check out everything we've got on "The Expendables," "Eat Pray Love" and "The Other Guys."

Exclusive: Beach Boys are Not Suing Katy Perry
"The Beach Boys are definitely not suing Katy Perry," Love tells ET. "In fact, we are flattered that her fantastically successful song is bringing to mind to millions of people our 1965 recording of the Beach Boys' 'California Girls.' We think her song is great and wish her all the success in the world."
Meanwhile, a rep for Rondor Music, Brian Wilson and Love's publisher, reaffirmed that they are not suing but added that they have, in fact, taken some action on the topic. "In regard to the various rumors circulating, we would like to make it clear that there is no lawsuit against the writers or publishers of 'California Gurls.' We have established diminutive claim. It is up to the six writers and various publishers of 'California Gurls' to decide whether they honor the claim or not," the rep told ET.

Britney Spears Set To Appear On 'Glee'
Britney Spears

Lady Gaga: Check. Madonna: Check. "Glee" has featured the music of the pop stars to acclaim in its first season. Yet the show has yet to get high-profile singers Madge and Gaga to appear in person on the show. But another diva is about to change that.
On Tuesday (August 10), show creator Ryan Murphy confirmed to Ryan Seacrest that Britney Spears will make an appearance on "Glee." Now, fans are anxious to see what they'll do with the Spears discography in an episode set to air next season.
And the cast seems just as excited as the Gleeks about what's to come. Heather Morris couldn't wait to have Spears on set when MTV News spoke to her at the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday.
"I get to do Britney Spears! I'm hearing rumors from other people that she's supposed to be coming ... that'd be so nerve-racking," she said. "I like 'Toxic' the best or the 'Slave' video. It was always her best performance. She's rocking! I don't care what I do."
"I mean I can't really give away songs, but I know we've seen pictures of Lea [Michele] in a sports bra," Jenna Ushkowitz added, confirming online reports that Michele would sing the classic Britney tune " ... Baby One More Time."
"Some old Britney, some new Britney, some Brittany of our Brittany from the Glee club. So it should be funny," Ushkowitz teased of featured songs. "We're really excited. I love Britney Spears."
Fans also want to know whether Matthew Morrison will go all the way and shave his head as rumored for the episode. But the only thing he would confirm is that he couldn't confirm anything.
"All rumors," Morrison told us. "I think you might be surprised. I don't think I'll be performing any [songs]. I might sing a little bit of 'Toxic,' " he shared. "I'm not sure. We haven't really got too far in the script yet, which is why I don't know too much about the head-shaving thing."
Morrison's castmate Amber Reilly is already convinced the episode will be great.
"I can tell you it's going to be a really great episode and you're going to love it," she said. "And they're doing the big hits from Britney."
Which Britney songs do you think are absolutely essential to the "Glee" tribute episode? Tell us in the comments!

In Touch Exclusive:What Scott Disick is hiding!
For Kourtney and Scott, 27, the move to New York could truly be the beginning of the end. By relocating to Scott?s hometown, Kourtney is coming face-to-face with her boyfriend?s past, which, In Touch has learned, is much darker than she could ever have imagined. ?He was worse than anyone knows,? reveals an old friend of Scott?s, who describes shocking stories of hard partying, disgusting public behavior ? and sex tapes with a number of women. ?Scott and all his close friends were in this fake ?gang? called the Scummers,? the friend recalls. ?They would do all these really awful things together.? The friend claims that Scott met girls at clubs and brought them home. ?When he was hooking up with a girl in bed, his friends would be in the closet, videotaping what was going on. Sometimes, his friends would jump out of the closet. He?d try to let them join in.? Scott collected the tapes, which would be bound to humiliate Kourtney should they ever surface. And shockingly, the friend believes that the tapes still exist at a friend?s apartment in New York City.

Kanye West Joins Twitter, Reveals Album Title Change
Kanye West
Photo: Dominique Charriau/WireImage
Kanye West is going to have to learn to keep his opinions to 140 characters or less. The hip-hop superstar has finally joined Twitter with the handle @kanyewest, after initially resisting the social-networking website that counts luminaries such as Oprah and President Barack Obama among its micro-bloggers. And although he's come to the Twitter game later than many celebs, the star has wasted no time getting his tweet count up.
The hip-hop star made his entry into the Twitterverse on Wednesday (July 28) with a status update about his business dealings: "Up early in the morning taking meetings in Silicone Valley." The MC later followed up with a cheeky correction to his original tweet, typing, "Lol I spelled Silicon wrong (I guess I was still thinking about the other type of silicone ITS A PROCESS!! : )."
After his inaugural tweet, the star typed more than a dozen messages in roughly two hours, and revealed that he is switching up the title of his next album, which is scheduled to hit stores in September. "The album is no longer called 'Good Ass Job,' " West tweeted. "I'm bouncing a couple of titles around now."
West followed up the LP update with a spate of shout-outs to media outlets that recently ran stories on Yeezy, including MTV News, which ran piece about his album preview at Facebook's headquarters.
The move to Twitter is an about-face for the star who famously took to his blog last year to deny that he was on the site after a rash of fraudulent accounts popped up.
"I don't have a f---ing Twitter... why would I use twitter??? I only blog 5 percent of what I'm up to in the first place. I'm actually slow delivering content because I'm too busy actually busy being creative most of the time and if I'm not and I'm just laying on a beach i wouldn't tell the world. Everything that Twitter offers I need less of. The people at Twitter know I don't have a f---ing Twitter so for them to allow someone to pose as me and accumulate over a million names is irresponsible and deceitful to [their] faithful users," West blogged in 2009.
Apparently, fans have been waiting for the Louis Vuitton Don to get on Twitter as West, at press time, had scored more than 55,000 followers during his first day on the site.

Chris Evans Says Playing Captain America Makes Him 'Nervous'
Chris Evans
Photo: Jerod Harris/ Getty Images
For most actors, one would think the idea of tackling the role of a famed superhero like Captain America would be the opportunity of a lifetime. An "easy yes," as they say in the biz. However, for the newly anointed star-spangled-superhero Chris Evans, the decision to take on the iconic character was a lot more complicated than simply saying yes or no to the part.
"No, it wasn't an easy yes," Evans told MTV News when he stopped by the MTV News/ MySpace Comic-Con livestream. "I get nervous. I get nervous in things like this [referring to interviews and public appearances]. Captain America means a lot of this."
Evans admitted that the decision was a particularly tough one because he was in a really happy place in his life and his career, and wasn't sure if he was ready to be catapulted into such a specific, fans-obsessing-over-every-detail-type spotlight. "[Playing] Captain America just changes things, and there's really no off switch once you walk down that road."
Evans went on to say, however, that his reservations don't in any way damper his excitement for making the film.
"There's nothing wrong with the project," Evans explained. "I love the people involved, the character, the script, Hugo [Weaving]. There was nothing wrong there, it was just about the lifestyle change and whether or not I was willing to do it."
Evans acknowledges the work he has cut out for him, but he's trying to get to a place where he can just enjoy himself.
"There's no turning back now," he said. "I'm just trying to make all the negatives positives and just enjoy the ride."

Guillermo Del Toro Dishes On 'Haunted Mansion' Remake
Guillermo Del Toro
Photo: Jerod Harris/ Getty Images
SAN DIEGO -- One of the biggest surprises at Comic-Con thus far came on Thursday during the Disney panel, when Guillermo del Toro came out and announced that he would be writing, producing and maybe directing a remake of "The Haunted Mansion."
Del Toro joked that they weren't returning Eddie Murphy's calls for this, referencing Murphy's 2003 comedy. He has been a lifelong fan of the Disneyland ride, and was collecting memorabilia from the ride before he even thought about making a film.
"For some people, it's just a ride, but for others like me, it's a way of life. We're serious fanatics. I'm a big, big collector of it. I've been collecting not only memorabilia but artifacts and original artifacts from the mansion for the past 10 years," he said. MTV's Josh Horowitz joked that del Toro could just use those to recreate the Mansion, but del Toro responded, "I'm going to use the budget of the film to create more props for my room."
At the Disney panel, del Toro announced that the Hat Box Ghost will be the main haunting in the film, and he elaborated about it to MTV News.
"It's such a great character that there's literally -- amongst Haunted Mansion fanatics, the hardcore ones -- a cult for the Hat Box Ghost. You can Google it, it's pretty intense, and I am one of them," he said. The legend around the ride's Hat Box Ghost was that it was "a beautiful creature" that was discarded on the first day of ride operation because they thought it was too scary. "The reality is that Imagineers could not make the illusion work, so they took it out," he said.
In terms of the plot, del Toro said Disney plans on taking the core mythology of the ride and are expanding it so there are many haunted mansions around the world. "They are all part of sort of a web and the spider sitting in the center of the web is what fans of the Haunted Mansion would know by the nickname the Hat Box Ghost," he elaborated.
Fans who are expecting to see a return to the 2003 film's tone will be surprised by del Toro's vision, he teased. "The movie I see in my head of 'Haunted Mansion' is not, I believe, what everyone is imagining it to be," he said. "It's not just a regular world with a haunted mansion plopped in the middle. I really am thinking of a movie that has a heightened reality."

2010 Comic-Con: Big Bang Theory
"The Big Bang Theory" kicks off on Thursdays for CBS this fall and the cast and crew headed to this year's Comic-Con to offer a sneak preview of the new season and to answer some questions from their growing fan base.
The panel began with the shows theme song being sung by the audience and the Bare Naked Ladies who made a surprise appearance. That was then followed by a Q & A moderated by the show's favorite guest star Wil Wheaton and attended by cast members Kaley Cuoco, Johnny Galecki, Simon Helberg, Jim Parsons, Kunal Nayyar along with the show's producers Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady.
Highlights from the discussion:
Each of the group was asked what brings out the inner geek in them: Kunal who plays Raj said 'Badminton', Simon, who plays Howard, answered "Accordian solos," Kaley, who plays Penny, got a round of applause for her answer, "The Bare Naked Ladies," Jim, who play Shledon, said he likes listening to talk radio, and Johnny, who plays Leonard said that what he geeks about is working and "True Blood."
When asked about how he relates to his character Leonard, Johnny said, "The relationship is frustrating. It's a "grass is always greener" kind of a feeling. He suffers a lot."
When asked about playing a character so unlike himself, (Parsons plays the quirky socially challenged Dr. Sheldon Cooper), the twice Emmy nominated actor said, "It's fulfilling because there's so much to do. And surprisingly easy because of the writing. It's right there."
Since the show is about a bunch of guys who would be Comic-Con attendees, naturally the producers were asked if there would ever be a Comic-Con episode. "It would be difficult since "Big Bang" is a four camera show," Bill Purdy said.
After the panel, the cast headed to the Warner Bros. booth on the convention floor for a signing.

Davis: 'Sex Sequel Chances Are Not Great'

Sex And The City star Kristin Davis has conceded fans are unlikely to see the series back on the big screen for a third time - because talk of another sequel is "not looking great".
The popular TV show was adapted into a movie in 2008 and this year saw the release of a follow-up.
But fans hoping for a third outing in the franchise may be disappointed - Davis is convinced scathing reviews from critics will discourage producers from making a third film.
When asked whether there will be another movie, she tells E! Online, "I don't think so, not that I know of. I wish it was so that we were continuing but I don't know. We made 300 million (dollars) internationally. There was so much hype, not coming from us, but the media hyped it up and then they tore it down.
"I could be wrong. Obviously there was a time when we thought there was no movie happening so you never know. But it is not looking great."

\'Paparazzi\' kid finally meets Gaga
Two months after he captured the attention of Lady Gaga - and the world - with his YouTube performance of her hit “Paparazzi,” 12-year-old Greyson Chance has finally met his idol face-to-\"Poker Face.\"
The \"Chance\" meeting happened Tuesday night backstage at Gaga’s “Monster Ball” concert in Oklahoma City. “I met @Lady Gaga!” he tweeted yesterday, including a pic of the pair posing together. “She was so kind, gave me some great advice and put on an amazing show!!”
Chance has spoken to 24-year-old Gaga once before via telephone, when the controversial artist told him to “work really hard, and stay away from girls and be focused,\" he said.
The talented twosome might be able to team up again soon: Chance is working on an album for Ellen DeGeneres’s new record label, which he inspired her to create
